Based on specific instruction of our Gurus, volunteers of Mahavtar Babaji Tadekam Foundation (MBTF) connected with Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA) in November 2024 to begin work on culture based tourism in Kuppam. The initial leads to Project Manager in KADA Shri Prem Kumar were given by Smt Kanneganti Rama Devi Garu of Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of India (ALEAP).
It is a coincidence that Kuppam is the assembly constituency of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri N Chandrababu Naidu Garu.
That is how volunteers of MBTF reached Kuppam in January 2025. The first visit was used to ‘investigate’ Kuppam in terms of its potential for cultural tourism. The second visit in February was to brief Shri Vikas Marmat Garu, IAS, the dynamic young Project Director of KADA on MBTF’s recommended strategy for cultural tourism in Kuppam, and to launch the logo of ‘Kangundi Bouldering’. The third visit was in March was to hold a cultural evening at Mallappakonda and to launch the people’s logo of ‘Aao Kuppam’. Mahavatar Babaji and Guruji Naushir have continuously guided our volunteers on this journey.
Our second visit to Kangundi turned out to be a millstone. Our visit to the government school, our Guruji Naushir’s announcement of scholarships to encourage continuity in senior education, our participation in the Mahashivratri Festival on 26 February 2025, and identifying the bouldering potential of Kangundi were the key highlights.
The way Shri PS Munirathnam Garu, Vice Chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Road Tourism Corporation explained the rituals of Mahashivratri that holy night was a blessing.
Professor Dr Chokkalingam Garu of Kangundi- on leave from Hyderabad to celebrate Mahashivratri in his ancestral village- turned out to be another icing on the cake. He is the younger brother of Shri PS Munirathnam Garu. His insights into archaeological sites, and culture and history of Kangundi have been an education. He led MBTF’s volunteers to the Neolithic rock art in the inselberg of Kangundi.
The photography/ videography of all the boulders of Kangundi-Kuppam has been done by buddy/ best friend duo of Vicky (Instagram @Kuppam_Diaries) and Manjunath (Instagram (Instagram mr_manju_nath_gt650). Their help in bringing culture based adventure tourism to Kangundi-Kuppam is invaluable, and will go down in annals of history of Kuppam.
Vicky’s WhatsApp status of ‘Just seeing the world through my 3rd eye (camera)’ is what attracted us to him. As per his own admission on 12 March 2025 while atop Kangundi Hill, he was for the first time seeing Kangundi from the perspective of bouldering and history dating back to 10,000 BCE.
This journey has turned out to be memorable and enjoyable for all of us and with the guidance and blessing of our Gurus and the support of KADA and the people, we are sure to all benefit spiritually from it.
Just done a fabulous work and a good initiative towards tourism in kuppam and let’s hope for quick completion of works 💪
