MAHABHARAT NATAKAM- THE CLIMBING IN CULTURE ‘TADKA’ OF KANGUNDI – KUPPAM

Mahabharata Natakam of Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh- which has been entertaining villagers for centuries- is now set to entertain climbers/ boulderers during Kangundi Bouldering Festival & Climbing Cup January 2026

Local village artistes have been entertaining villagers by enacting stories of Mahabharata Natakam in Andhra Pradesh for centuries. The advent of TV followed by movie halls and now of OTT platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney, etc has nearly spelt a death knell to this village industry which kept our heritage and culture alive. As the directive of Masters Mahavatar Babaji and Guruji Naushir is to use adventure tourism to protect and promote local indigenous culture, Mahavatar Babaji TadEkam Foundation (TadEkam) has included Mahabharata Natakam as one of the many elements of culture being projected during the upcoming Kangundi Bouldering Festival and Climbing Cup January 2026.

During the upcoming Kangundi Bouldering Festival, climbing guests will get ample opportunities to choose the Mahabharata character they want to become, wear the make up and costume, and also to do a bit of acting. All tourists are requested to be kooool and sporty in supporting our indigenous culture and traditions so that they survive. Make up and wearing the costume takes 45 to 60 minutes. For those who do not want to to try this, we request you to take selfies with those who do, and to post these pictures and videos on their social media accounts. This would help TadEkam in its aim of protecting and promoting local culture using tourism.
