KANGUNDI INSELBERG- SHAPE & TRADITION

Kangundi Inselberg Fort in Shape of Shivling for Bouldering in Kuppam, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, India

The inselberg of Kangundi when observed from an aerial view appears to be in the shape of a Shivling. It has a 1,000-year-old Sri Malleswara Swamy Temple on the top of the inselberg/ hill. The presiding deity in this temple is Lord Shiva. In recent times, a cemented track has been constructed around the inselberg to help devotees do a parikrama or for circumambulation of the Shivling like inselberg.

In any view of Kangundi Inselberg from air or ground and from any direction, it appears like a Shivling (Lord Shiva).

These pictures have been taken by Shri Vicky of Kuppam. This information has been provided by Professor Chokkalingam of Kangundi.
